Insert a Link

Make your page content interactive by including hyperlinks within them. You can choose to have a word, phrase or an image link to a website or bookmark with the Insert/edit link button.

Via the WYSIWYG

  1. Select the desired page in the Site Content menu on the left.
  2. In Edit mode, scroll down your page to the desired section where you will be inserting a hyperlink.
  3. Highlight the word or words you wish to turn into a hyperlink.
  4. Click the Insert/edit link icon in the WYSIWYG editor. The Insert link window will now open. You will have an option for either an internal link type or an external link type.

  5. Click on Ok.
To remove the link, place your cursor in the linked word or words. Click on the Remove Link icon from the WYSIWYG editor.

Linking External Links

  1. To link to something outside of Cascade (or a non lamar.edu website), highlight the text to be linked and click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.
  2. In the Insert link window, select External as the Link Type.
  3. Type in or paste a URL in the Link Source field, e.g., https://www.externalwebsite.com. Preferably, you should be copying and pasting the URL from your browser into this field.
  4. Make sure your "target" is always set to "new window" for external links.

Copying Links from Emails

Many times you will find the need to copy a link sent via your LEA email account.  Microsoft uses "Safe Links" which may cause issues when copying and pasting to the CMS.  Here's why and what to do:

What are Safe Links?
Safe Links is a security feature in Microsoft 365 that scans attachments and links to web pages for phishing attempts, viruses and malware.

Example:
Below is a link to the  domain.

https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lamar.edu%2F&data=05%7C02%7Chaynessn%40lamar.edu%7Cb0d4a2d

There are two solutions to clean up this issue.

Solution #1

Copy the email, click paste as PLAIN TEXT from the EDIT menu, then paste into the CMS.  Hit enter after it's pasted and the link will be applied without the Safe Links code.

Paste as Text

Solution #2

Click the trusted link inside the email and visit the page/website.  Copy and paste the URL directly from your address bar.

Linking Email Addresses

  1. To link an email address, highlight the address or text to be linked and click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.
  2. In the Insert link window, select External as the Link Type.
  3. Instead of inserting a URL in the Link Source field, type “mailto:” followed by the appropriate email address. There should be no spacing between the text, e.g., mailto:webmaster@lamar.edu.

Insert Email Address

There are two kinds of hyperlinks, Internal and External links. Internal links are used when linking to pdfs, images, pages created WITHIN Cascade CMS or pages that have a lamar.edu domain. External links are used when linking to pdfs, images, pages created OUTSIDE of Cascade CMS or non lamar.edu domain.
