The Center for Resiliency's Community Engagement and Training Division is dedicated to strengthening the preparedness, resilience, and recovery capacity of communities across Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast region. Through collaborative partnerships, educational programs, workshops, exercises, and outreach initiatives, we connect individuals, organizations, businesses, and local governments with the knowledge and resources needed to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
The Gulf Coast faces unique challenges, including hurricanes, flooding, severe weather events, industrial incidents, and other hazards that can significantly impact communities and critical infrastructure. Research and national preparedness frameworks consistently demonstrate that communities are more resilient when residents, organizations, and institutions actively engage in preparedness efforts before disasters occur. Effective disaster training equips individuals and organizations with the skills needed to make informed decisions, coordinate resources, reduce risk, and accelerate recovery. Likewise, community engagement fosters trusted relationships, strengthens partnerships, and ensures that diverse voices and local expertise contribute to resilience planning and disaster response efforts.
Our programs promote a whole-community approach to resilience by bringing together emergency management professionals, nonprofit organizations, healthcare partners, businesses, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, and community members to address shared challenges and build sustainable solutions. Through trainings, tabletop exercises, workshops, public outreach campaigns, and collaborative initiatives, the Center for Resiliency Engagement & Education empowers communities to enhance preparedness, mitigate risk, and develop the capacity to withstand and recover from future disasters.
Together, we are building stronger, safer, and more resilient Gulf Coast communities—before, during, and after disaster strikes.
