Dr. Joby John serves as the Dean of the College of Business at Âé¶¹Ó³»Ó°Òô. He joined Lamar in 2024, bringing more than three decades of experience in leadership, higher education, business consulting, and industry. As the dean, he serves as the college’s chief academic and administrative officer, providing strategic leadership to advance academic excellence, industry engagement, and community impact.
Dr. John is a topic expert on business models, process design; operations and marketing. He has engaged in academic and professional work in Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Sweden and USA. Clients have included: Arabella Insurance,Boston Children’s Hospital, Intertek Testing, LL Bean, Lowell General Hospital in Massachusetts, Mico-BOSCH in India, UC Berkeley (Seminarium) in S. America, Volvo N. America, and other firms.
Previously, Dr. John served as Dean of B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration for eight years at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he launched the Executive MBA, MS Accounting, 100% online Graduate Certificate in Business. Under his leadership, the college also launched the Northwestern Mutual Sales Training and Research Lab, the Acadiana CFO Roundtable with its quarterly Economic Index, and an executive development program. Dr. John had oversight over the Small Business Development Center and cofounded the city of Lafayette’s business incubator and the Office of Innovation at the University. He secured two new programs accreditations - AACSB for Accounting, and ACPHA for Hospitality Management program.
Dr. John has served on AACSB peer review teams and the Southern US Business Deans Association (SBAA) Board. He has mentored colleges on accreditation in Asia, Middle East, Europe and the US. He is a continuing Advisory Board Member of the Excelia Business School in La Rochelle, France.
Prior to his Deanship, Dr. John was Chair of the Marketing Department at Bentley University (Boston, Mass) for eight of his twenty-one years at that institution, where he served on the leadership team to design its nationally ranked MBA program. Under his leadership, the Department launched the Center for Marketing Technology and launched the MS in Marketing Analytics in 1999. At Bentley, Dr. John participated in USAID programs in Europe and North Africa.
Dr. John served as President of the Boston Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and cofounded the Services Marketing Special Interest Group of AMA International. He has served on the editorial review boards of four scholarly journals and as co-chair of international academic conferences.
Dr. John has authored Customer-focused Management: Competing through Service, published by Praeger, co-authored four editions of a textbook, Services Marketing, which also has Asia-Pacific, Chinese, and Japanese editions. He also co-edited Services Marketing Self-Portraits: Introspections, Reflections, and Glimpses from the Experts, published by AMA International and Marketing Classics Press. Dr. John has published over fifty scholarly papers. His current research is on newer business models, business turbulence and disruptions, online influencer and social media marketing, predictors of new technology adoptions in digital assets, and other blockchain applications.
His civic leadership activities include nine years on the Board of Trustees of Ochsner Lafayette General. In Lafayette, he has served on the Board of Directors of the University Hospital and Clinics, the Board of Directors of the Opportunity Machine, the Board of Advisors of the International Center Foundation, and as its Chair for two years, the Advisory Board of the World Trade Center, New Orleans, the Board of Directors of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Lafayette and on the Lafayette City-Parish Comprehensive Plan Citizens’ Advisory Council.
Dr. John has industry experience in pharmaceuticals, health care services, packaged goods, and professional services in the areas of new product development, product and brand management, professional sales, marketing and promotions, product and operations quality control, and general management consulting in India at PFIZER, BAT (ITC Ltd.), Finolex Cables (SALEQUIP Division), and Hoechst Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. John is a small business investor, advisor, and mentor for startups.
