Welcome to the First Generation Connections program! Our goal is to ensure that all students, including first-generation, receive the tools they need to be successful at Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô. Being first-gen at LU means your parents or guardians did not complete a four-year college or university degree in the United States.
Research shows that the barriers to success for first-generation students are not just academic. Social, emotional, and physical barriers can be just as impactful. We invite the Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô campus community to join us as we build a network for first-generation students to thrive and grow.

Senior, Port Arthur
Being first gen in my family comes with a lot of ups and downs, but mostly downs. That doesn’t mean that I must stop doing what I’m doing for my future. This means that I must work ten times harder for my health, my wealth, my mind, and my grind. I’m so proud of myself for the things that I have accomplished throughout my time here at LU and I’m proud of y’all for doing what’s best for your heart. Keep pushing, stay focused, but remember to take care of yourself first. ¡Todo vale la pena!
