Building on more than a decade of research, international engagement, conferences, and student experiences, the Center is expanding opportunities for interdisciplinary research, graduate education, professional training, student engagement, and collaboration in rule of law, justice, and emerging technology.
The Center’s divisions and initiatives bring together faculty, students, practitioners, and partners across disciplines to advance research, education, and professional engagement in rule of law, justice, and emerging technology.
Additional divisions and interdisciplinary initiatives will be developed over time as the Center expands its programs, partnerships, and areas of research and engagement.
International Conferences
2026 | Justice, Resilience & the Rule of Law
The conference brought together scholars, legal professionals, practitioners, and students from the United States and around the world to explore international justice, resilience, and contemporary challenges to the rule of law.
2025 | International Criminal Justice Reform
3rd Annual International Conference
Explored pressing issues in criminal justice reform, including humane approaches to punishment and prison reform, featuring Dr. John Trumpbour of Harvard Law School as keynote speaker.
2023 | Death Penalty as a Political Weapon
2nd Annual International Conference
Examined the use of capital punishment as a political instrument, bringing international and comparative perspectives to the relationship between the death penalty, state power, human rights, and justice.
2022 | The Future of the Death Penalty
1st Annual International Conference 
Explored the future of capital punishment in the United States and internationally, featuring renowned death penalty scholar Professor Franklin E. Zimring of UC Berkeley as keynote speaker.

Special Student Engagement Event
Celebrated Constitution Day with active student participation and direct engagement with national leadership, featuring U.S. Congressman Brian Babin as the keynote speaker and discussions on the Constitution, government, and the rule of law.
International Workshop in Spain | 2015
Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô faculty and students participated in the Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice Systems Workshop at the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Spain, engaging with scholars from universities across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
Â鶹ӳ»Ó°Òô students and faculty visited the Madrid Police Department, providing students with firsthand exposure to policing and criminal justice practices in an international setting.
NATO School & International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences | Italy
Dr. Sanaz Alasti served as invited faculty for a Military Operations Seminar in Italy, presenting on punishment under Sharia law as part of an international professional education program.
